2. THE ROMANS Towns  The Romans built Britain’s first towns.  Throughout their empire,the Romans built their towns in exactly the same style. Streets were laid out neatly in a grid pattern.  The three largest towns that the Romans built were: London, Colchester and St. Albans.

8. THE ROMANSTHE ROMANS Mosaics  Mosaic floors were a statement of wealth and importance.  Each mosaic used over one hundred tiles.

9. THE ROMANSTHE ROMANS Artists We learnt about some artists, two worked in Rome.  Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15 April 1452.  Michelangelo painted the high ceiling of the Sistine chapel (see photo). We had a go at painting upside down. It was really hard work and messy!

10. THE ROMANSTHE ROMANS Neptune  Neptune was god of the sea. He carried a trident.  Neptune was also named the earth shaker because he made massive earthquakes.

11. THE ROMANSTHE ROMANS Soldiers  Only men could be in the Roman Army. No women. Men had to be at least 20 years old. This is a picture of a Tortoise manoeuvre.

12. AND FINALLY  This is a picture of Hadrian’s Wall which I visited in 2013. It is about 73 miles long and was built by the Romans.  This is my mosaic tile that I made at Chedworth Roman Villa in February.

13.  I visited the Roman amphitheatre in Cirencester – it seated 8000 spectators.
