2. Class Standing Q: How many credits do I need to be considered a senior next year? A: You must have earned 18 credits by the end of the summer to be classified as a senior in August. If you are classified as a junior in August but you are on track to graduate in at the end of the first semester, you can then be reclassified as a senior in January.

11. Choosing Electives Q: How do go about choosing my electives for next year? A: Make sure you include activities that are important to you such as band, athletics, theatre, choir, debate, yearbook, newspaper, etc. Then look at your program of study for guidance.

37. Alternate Choices Q: Is it really important for me to select 3 alternates? A: YES, YES, YES!! Alternates are very important – especially in the senior year. That is the year where we see the most conflicts in students schedules so there is a good chance your counselor will have to use one or more of your alternates to complete your schedule next year. B. Choose Alt. Science for A&P or Adv. Animal

38. Using alternates Q: How will the counselor decide which alternates to use for which classes? A: Your counselor will look at the blue course selection worksheet when selecting your alternates and use them in the order you listed them from 1 st – 3 rd choice. When determining which elective to REMOVE in case of a conflict, your counselor will begin with the last class listed in your original 8 choices and work up. From there so it is VERY important you list your electives in the order of preference!

39. Student Aide Q: How can I request to be a student aide next year? A: You must fill out an application to be considered for student aide. If you want to request a teacher or office position, make sure you note that on your application. It would help to have the teacher or office supervisor initial the request as well. Staff Aide is limited to one period a day.

41. Dual-Credit Q: How do I know if I am eligible to sign up for dual- credit courses? A: You are eligible to sign up for dual-credit classes if: 1.You meet the criteria for admission into the Honors program as listed in the Course Selection Guide 2.You meet the testing eligibility requirements of TJC through the TSI tests OR be exempt based on your scores on your PSAT, SAT, ACT, EOC 3.You complete the application for admission for TJC ONLINE

42. TSI (TX Success Initiative) Exemptions Q: How do I know what test scores I need to register? A: To determine eligibility, you must do the following: 1.Check with your counselor to see if your PSAT, SAT or ACT or EOC scores exempt you from the TSI 2.If not exempt, arrange to take the TSI Test at TJC A TSI Pre-assessment is required online Cost is $35 Refer to handout for more details

43. TSI Testing Q: If I am not exempt, how do I go about scheduling the TSI? A: Steps to Take a Test at TJC Testing Center: 1.Complete a TJC Admission application ONLINE 2.Complete the TSI Pre-Assessment online BEFORE taking the TSI 3.Call the testing center at 903-510-2617 to confirm hours for testing and availability 4.Cost is $35 5.You must have a photo ID and the Pre-Assessment printout to take the test 6.When you get your scores, give a copy to your high school counselor so he/she can register you for classes as long as you score high enough on the test to be eligible

44. Off-Campus Dual- Credit Q: When can I take my classes at TJC? A: You may schedule your TJC classes: 1.Anytime during the summer. 2.During the school year. You may be excused from the WHS campus the first 3 periods of the day or the last 3 periods of the day to attend classes at TJC. If you choose morning classes, you must be in your seat at WHS by 10:26 when the 4 th period bell rings. Also, make sure you allow yourself enough time to get to your afternoon classes from the high school if you leave after 5 th period at 12:42 (cannot guarantee “C” Lunch)

45. Off-Campus Dual- Credit Offerings Q: Which courses can I take at TJC and receive dual credit? 46. Dual Credit Off- Campus Registration Q: How do I go about registering for Dual Credit classes taken at TJC ? A: You must FIRST see your high school counselor to get the Dual/College Credit Permission form, Transcript, and Test Scores & TJC Admissions App-if needed. Then you will take that form (and payment) to the Dual-Credit office at TJC located in Jenkins Hall, Room 106. The Summer registration windows are as follows: Summer I : April 6-May 26, 2015 (Pmt. Due 5/27) Mid-Summer: April 6-June 9 (Pmt. Due 6/10) Summer II: April 6-June 29 (Pmt. Due 6/30)

48. Dual Credit On- Campus Registration Q: How do I go about registering for Dual Credit classes taken at WHS? A: Your counselor will complete a registration form based on the dual credit courses you signed up for at WHS. The counselor will also provide a copy of Test scores (if required for exemption) and a transcript. If you have done dual-credit at TJC before, all you need to do is show up at registration with payment. If you are new to TJC, you will also need to complete a TJC Admissions Application and test scores. Also, if you passed the TSI, bring a copy of those scores with you. Registration is held one day each semester on the WHS campus. Fall registration usually coincides with one of the high school registration dates in August.

50. Summer Courses Q: Can I take courses over the summer ? A: Yes, you can take courses through virtual school (online) and/or through dual credit at TJC. WHS summer school is for credit recovery only.

51. Virtual School Q: How does virtual school work? A: All work for a virtual school class is done online on your own, except for the semester exams which must be taken in the counseling office. The fee is $52 per class which can be refunded if you finish by the reimbursement deadline. See your counselor the first week of May to register for summer virtual school.

52. NCAA Scholarship Q: What things do I need to do to secure NCAA eligibility? A: You need to do the following: 1.This spring you need to go online and register at www.ncaa.org www.ncaa.org 2.When you take the SAT or ACT this spring include the NCAA as one of the places your scores will be sent. (code 9999) 3.At the end of the junior year go back online and get the NCAA transcript release form to mail them a transcript 4.Work with your coaches on corecoursegpa.com
