2 God has always spoken to man in the words of man Adam & Eve (Gen. 2:16-17; 3:1-3) Israel (Exo. 20-23; 24:3-4, 7, 12; 25:8-9) “The book of the law of Moses” (Neh. 8: 1-3, 7-8, 12) God desires that we know truth, 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Those who determine to understand the Bible can, Jno. 8:31-32; Acts 8:30-31; 17:11; Eph. 3:3-5; 2 Tim. 2:15

3 Hermeneutics: What is it? The science of interpretation (Acts 14:12) God expects us to use His word to know His character & His will, Psa. 119:11-16 Go about understanding the Bible like we would other books Scripture is inspired, not interpretation (2 Tim. 3:16; 2:15) Apostles had miraculous remembrance (Jno. 14:26) We must read to know (Eph. 3:3-4)

4 Knowing God’s Will by Understanding God’s Word “To the law & to the testimony” Isa.8:19-20 Set the heart, Ezra 7:10 (Jno. 7:17) Revealed things belong to men, Deut. 29:29 Law of God was read, taught & understood, Neh. 8:1-8, 12 We must read, study, meditate, Psa. 1:1-2 (Lk. 16:29-31; 1 Tim. 4:13, 15)

5 Why be Concerned? Without understanding the word of God one cannot have faith, Jno. 5:46-47 Shows respect for God’s word, 2 Tim. 2:15 To not be led away into error & lose our soul, 2 Pet. 3:16-18 To promote unity & heal division among believers, Eph. 4:3; Jno. 17:20-21 To correctly answer those who question, 1 Pet. 3:15; Acts 8:30-31, 35; 17:2-3 To know the way to heaven, Acts 16:30; Psa. 19:7-11 (Jno. 14:6; Matt. 7:21, 24)

6 Come to the Knowledge of the Truth We are under obligation, Eph. 5:17 Whether we understand the Bible will determine whether we are received or rejected by God! 2 Tim. 2:15; Jno. 8:31-32 How we study God’s word is crucial to properly understanding it!
