AAMFT’S CODE OF ETHNICS

Introduction 2 To respect the public trust in marriage and family therapist, some standards are by AAMFT, emphasizing the ethical practices. Exceptions are ought to be in a profession and the standard of ethics state them which are enforced by AAMFT ethical committee. The supervisors, attorneys, consultants or other authorities can help the therapists about the standards of ethics, in case they are unsure.

Responsibility to Clients in Couples & Family Counseling 3 The family therapist should serve one’s interest but whose? Here the problem is – the client Individual here - Families And the sessions would – Whole Family Session with every single member Conjoint Sessions

The restrictions are stated before sessions Every individual session will be protected with privacy The goals will not be confined to getting information. Protection of individual, legal matters and confidentiality is covered Confidentiality In Couples & Family Counseling 4

Special Ethical Consideration in Couples & Family Counseling 5 To approach with family counseling, not individual Who is getting the benefits? More emphasize on family counseling than individuals Make sure that all members are treated equally

Non Discrimination Part of responsibility to a client 6 It is the duty of Marriage and Family therapists to provide assistance to every single human being, without considering their sex, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other influencing factor.

Promotional Materials part of Advertising 7 Promotion is required for people to know about the services. The Marriage and Family therapists make sure that the advertisements and promotional materials are on the print, electronic and internet based media so that people can easily get to see them and select the appropriate service that goes with the law as well.

Public participation part of responsibilities to the profession 8 Participation of people is highly encouraged to define the structure of professional services and regulation of the Marriage and Family therapy services.
