2 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU Background to the project Australian Centre for Olympic Studies ACOS was officially launched by Helen Brownlee of the AOC and Phil Coles of SOCOG on 6 th October 2005 main donations come from the Director Richard Cashman and members of the Australian Olympic committee

4 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU Olympic and Event Resource Project our objective is to provide a unique study and research environment for sport and event management in Australia our research profile has been extended to the Asia Pacific region collection includes print, online resources and ephemera such as a Sydney Olympic torch, Melbourne Commonwealth Games banner, posters and other items

6 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU The collection documents and publications relating to SOCOG post Games Reports from 1908 official result books for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and Paralympics Games bid books both successful and unsuccessful for the Summer and Winter Games

7 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU The collection 20,000 slides from 1993-2000 7 photograph albums, 200 videos unique material: the post games report from the 1936 Berlin Summer and winter Olympics are one of our prized possessions donations from Australian IOC member, Phil Coles

14 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU Student fellowship 2006 “ Sustainability of Olympic Sporting Venues’” Natalie Essig is currently completing her PhD in the Faculty of Architecture at Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany. Natalie’s dissertation will investigate the sustainability of Olympic sports facilities, in collaboration with the National and International Olympic Committee (NOC and IOC) of Germany. The intention of her thesis is to develop an international sustainability standard for Olympic Buildings that incorporates architectural, social, environmental, economic and energy benchmarks

15 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU Australian Centre Event Management ACEM became part of the collection in 2006 began ordering and collecting materials for event management purchasing equipment and display cabinets creating a resource for teaching and research in event management

16 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU The Library majority of the collection is available for loan to students and researchers this includes access by inter library loan  many enquires are received from overseas – Canada, Puerto Rico for example unique and archival items are available for on campus use only

17 UTS:LIBRARY WWW.LIB.UTS.EDU.AU Facilities the Olympic and Event Studies Room was officially opened by Alex Byrne, University Librarian it may be booked for events, by organisations such as the NSW Sports Academy kitchenette plasma TV and DVD player data projector and adjoining seminar room
