2. OFFICAL RULES ALL ACTIVITIES HAVE OFFICIAL AND UNOFFICIAL RULES OF FAIR PLAY. OFFICIAL RULES are the formal laws of the game,these are set by a sports governing body e.g. FIFA. Having formal rules ensures everyone(universally) follows the same rules/laws/procedures that are specified within the rule book.

3. Exam questions on rules In your exam they may ask for an official/formal rule that may restrict your actions or movement. Therefore your looking for a rule that’s in the rule book that may put limitations on your movement. You can use the following examples: offside rule in football, 3sec rule in basketball, Position restrictions in netball eg centres are allowed everywhere on the court apart from semi circle.

4. 3- sec rule in basketball 3-second rule A player can only be in the opposition's restricted area - or the key - for three seconds. A foul will be called if the player does not leave within those three seconds.

5. Example: offside rule in football Infraction in which an offensive player does not have at least two defensive players between himself and the goal line when the ball is played forward by a member of the attacking team.

11. Sports specific rules Different activities have specific rules which have different effects on games. For example, the playing area, use of start and re-start procedures and where you are able to move on the court can all define an activities and specific parts of activities. Consider some of the most important specific rules and procedures which relate to taking free-throws in basketball and completing a serve in badminton.

12. Free- throws in basketball Rule: if a player is fouled in the act of shooting the ball and misses the shot he/she is given two free throws. If a player is fouled and scores the basket then only one free throw is taken. Procedure: the official takes the ball to the free- throw line of the offending team. After awaiting for the players take their positions, the official indicates the no of free throws awarded and gives the ball to the player who has 10seconds in which to shoot.

13. Badminton serve Rule: to begin a point players serve and receive from the right hand service court (when score 0 or even no. of points). Players serve and receive on the left hand service court if its an uneven no. of points. Both players change service courts after each point is scored. Procedure: the server must ensure that: the racket head is no higher than server’s hand;the shuttle is contacted no higher than the server’s waist.
