Combustion Reactions By: Chris, Andrew, and Kacper

Combustion Reaction A combustion reaction is when an element or a compound reacts with oxygen, often producing energy in the form of heat and light A hydrocarbon is a compound that is usually involved in a combustion reaction. It is made of what? A. Iron, and Hydrogen B. Carbon, and Hydrogen C. Helium, and Carbon D. Hydrogen Carbonate
4
Product of Combustion Reaction A combustion reaction with a hydrocarbon produces water, carbon dioxide, and heat. A combustion reaction is commonly called burning. Other elements and compounds can be involved in a combustion reaction however it doesn’t produce water and carbon dioxide.
6
How to Setup Combustion Reaction Balancing Equations Say you have C 6 H 6, this is how you set up a hydrocarbon combustion reaction. Tip: Balance the C and H, first then balance O C6H6C6H6 + O 2 H 2 O + CO 2
7
Balancing Combustion Reaction Equations CHOCHO 6 1 6 2 2 3 6 6 13 3 6 15 30 126 2 Now it is balanced! 2C 6 H 6 + 15O 2 6H 2 O + 12CO 2
8
How a real combustion reaction works. Combustion takes place in an engine to make the pistons move.
