Vocabulary Words to Know Product – The answer to a multiplication problem (Ex. 1 x 3 = 3) Factor – The numbers multiplied together to find a product. (Ex. 1 x 3 = 3) Product – The answer to a multiplication problem (Ex. 1 x 3 = 3) Factor – The numbers multiplied together to find a product. (Ex. 1 x 3 = 3)

Try These! 1.4 x 5 = 2. 6 x 7 = 3. 9 x 6 = 4. 7 x 7 = 1.4 x 5 = 2. 6 x 7 = 3. 9 x 6 = 4. 7 x 7 = Check your answers on the next page!

Let’s Begin 4 x 8 = 32 4 x 80 = 320 4 x 800 = 3200 4 x 8,000 = 32,000 Look for a pattern. Find a rule

Multiples of 10 When multiplying by multiples of 10, multiply the number times 1 then add a 0 to the product. Example: 3 x 40= 120 Breaking it down 3 x 4 =12 3 x 40 = 12 + one 0 = 120 When multiplying by multiples of 10, multiply the number times 1 then add a 0 to the product. Example: 3 x 40= 120 Breaking it down 3 x 4 =12 3 x 40 = 12 + one 0 = 120

Multiples of 100 When multiplying by multiples of 100, multiply the number times 1 then add two 0s to the product. Example: 3 x 400= 1200 Breaking it down Breaking it down 3 x 4 =12 3 x 400 = 12 + two 0s = 1200

Multiples of 1,000 When multiplying by multiples of 1,000, multiply the number times 1 then add three 0s to the product. Example: 3 x 4000= 12000 Breaking it down Breaking it down 3 x 4 =12 3 x 4000 = 12 + three 0s = 12000
