Final Jeopardy Rutherford proposed the nuclear or "solar system" model, in which negatively charged electrons move around a tiny, massive, positively charged nucleus. This model replaced Thomson's plum-pudding model, in which positive and negative charges were evenly distributed throughout the atom. Rutherford's gold-foil experiment (which showed that most alpha particles fired at a gold foil pass right through without deflection) led him to conclude that the atom is mostly empty space. The fact that a few of the positively charged alpha particles are deflected greatly indicated that a small part of the atom-the nucleus-contains all its positive charge and most of its mass. Compare Rutherford's model of the atom to Thomson's model by drawing their models. Label all the parts. Explain Rutherford's experiment to develop his model. (Click 3 times for answer.)
