History Was discovered and occupied in 1500 by Pedro Cabral. Became independent from portugal in The population was started with the influx of Portuguese settlers and African slaves.

History: Government Brazil was once an empire and their first emperor was Pedro de Alcantara which began in Since then they have had 5 different governments until their current one. Their current government is ran under the President handpicked by the former president Lula, Dilma Rousseff.

Geography Brazil occupies half of South America.
Highest point: Pico Da Neblina (9,823ft) Largest river is the Amazon River. Amazon Rain Forest: biggest in the world. Christ of redeemer is a popular tourist attraction. Rio De Janeiro is known as the carnival capital because they hold a huge carnival each year, attracting around 500,000 people.

Vegetation Brazils soil produces around 70 million tons of grain crops each year, mainly because of how much land they have. Land isn't very fertile because of high acidity and aluminum content in soil. Largest areas of fertile soil are called terra roxa, and are located in Parana and Sao Paulo. The least fertile lands are near the rain forests.

Climate Brazil climate is characterized by 5 climatic regions of Brazil: equatorial, tropical semiarid, highland tropical and subtropical. There is not much seasonal change since Brazil is near the equator. The temperatures range from about 75 degrees to 105 degrees, but it can sometimes get cool enough where you need to wear a jacket especially in the rain. In most of Brazil it rains anywhere from 40 to 60 inches a year

Brazil's Natural Resources
Brazil leads the world in biofuel production. They produce a lot of their fuel from sugar cane. Some of Brazil's resources are quartz, diamonds, chromium, iron ore, phosphates, petroleum, mica, graphite, titanium, gold, copper, oil, bauxite, zinc, tin, and mercury.

Culture Brazil had a diverse culture and ethnic history. In the 20th century many of the citizens were Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Arab, and Japanese. The core of Brazil's culture is the culture of Portugal.

Main Religions Catholicism: Roman Catholicism has been the main religion in Brazil since the 16th century. Protestantism: Christianity is Brazil's second largest religion. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the third largest. Jehovah's Witnesses is the 4th largest religion. They have around 700,000 members. Eastern Orthodox is the 5th largest and has around 500,000 members.

Work Every person from a foreign country must obtain a work permit before entering the country to find a job. Most jobs in Brazil have to do with the oil and gas industry. Jobs in this industry include piping, engineering, and transportation. Other jobs include: teaching english, working tourist industry, and agriculture jobs.

Family Life In Brazil family is very important. Families spend a lot of time together and children have great respect for their parents and their authority. Families usually eat lunch and dinner together every day.

Social Life Brazilians love color, parties and celebrations. They celebrate a lot for many different reasons, one they celebrate a lot for are weddings. They will have lots of food, good music, and lots of dancing. They also have lots of festivals.

Lifestyle The Brazilian's are known for their generosity.
Relationships are also very important to a brazilian, Family is the center of their culture. They tend to express things physically,shaking hands, hugging, and kissing is considered a common place for them.

Government Brazil's government is a presidential federal republic, the president is the head of state and head of government. Their executive branch is a lot like the U.S., the president is elected to a 4-year term and can be re-elected for one more term. The legislative branch is called the National Congress. Cultural Traditions Holidays: April 21st is Tiradentes' Day
September 7th is Independence day 2nd is Day of the Dead December 25th is Christmas Events: Carnival takes place 5 days up to Ash Wednesday. Most famous part of Carnival is Rio Carnival which takes place all over the country.

Modern Culture Clothing: The male dress code is usually casual and comfortable, they wear havaianas which are the most popular flip flops. They typically wear light clothes for the hot weather. Women commonly wear jeans and dresses.

Modern Culture cont. Food:The national dish is feijoada. Its a meat stew made from pork and black beans. Traditional side dishes are served with feijoada, ground manioc, orange salad, and arroz. Music: Brazilian pop music is called Musica Popular Brasileira. It originated from tropicalia music. Drums and percussion instruments are also used in their music.

Sports Soccer is the most popular sport in Brazil
Other sports include MMA, basketball, and motorsports. Brazil's soccer team has won a record of 5 FIFA World Cup championships, the first one coming in 1958 and the last in 2002.

Race and Ethnicity The Brazilian society started with the original Native Americans with an influx of Portuguese colonizers and African slaves. Most of the African slaves came from the Bantu and West Africans population.

Architecture The Brazilians have some of the most modern and well built Government facilities in the world. Most of these were built in the moving of the capital from the populous city of Rio De Janeiro to the current capital of Brasilia. Brazil's most well known architectural creation is Christ the Redeemer
