Unit 4 Helitorch, Batchmixer and Modular Mix Transfer Components
2
Objectives n Know basic parts & mechanics of a Helitorch n Become familiar with the mixing systems
3
Basic function of mixing system is to combine raw fuel with a gelling agent to create a thickened mixture, then transfer it to the helitorch
4
The purpose of a Helitorch is to dispense ignited gelled fuel via a helicopter.
5
Helitorch Primary Parts
7
n Frame n Fuel tank with sight glasses n Ignition system n Pump and positive shut-off nozzle n Clay&Bailey relief valve n Cam-lock and dry break fittings n Single point suspension with adjustable attachment point and electrical cable
11
Batchmixer
12
Batchmixer n Designed to mix gelling agents and fuel to a thick, consistent mix n Tank designed to meet U.S. D.O.T. regulations n Capable of mixing large quantities of fuel & pumping to Helitorch drums
13
Batchmix Components
14
Batchmixer Components n Motor n Pump n Pressure gauge n Plumbing n 3-way valve n MC 306 or DOT 406 tank n Fuel fill port n Mix/re-circulation tank n Discharge hose with dry break valves n Suction dry break fitting port n Suction hose with dry break valves n Emergency Shut Off handle with minimum 20 foot lanyard
15
Modular Mix Transfer System
16
Modular Mix Transfer Systems n Same purpose as a batchmixer n Not hard plumbed to a mix tank n Pumps gelled fuels from one drum to another n Less costly to manufacture n D.O.T. regulated for public highway transportation
17
Transfer System Components
18
Modular Mix Transfer System Components n Motor n Pump n Pressure gauge n Approved drums n Fuel fill port n Clay/Bailey relief valve n Powder dispenser n Sight glasses n Discharge hose with dry break valves n Suction/re- circulation dry break fittings n Suction hose with dry break valves
