3 PROTECTIT Multipurpose Boxes GEMINI
SECTION 1: OVERVIEW PROTECTIT Multipurpose Boxes GEMINI

4 Overview Applications Gemini is a new Distribution and Control&Command insulating switchboard Gemini can be used for different applications for commercial and industrial sectors (and for some residential applications): Control & Command (automation) of machinery, apparatus,… Distribution (with traditional use of modular apparatus) By using partial plates to be inserted in the frame, Gemini can also be used for mixed applications

5 Some applications Overview MACHINE CONTROL UNDERGROUND PARKING
CAR WASHING Meter board MAIN BREAKER OUTDOOR PARKING

6 Applications by sector
Overview Applications by sector RESIDENTIAL Outdoor of houses, Swimming pool control equipment, automatic garden lighting and watering COMMERCIAL Outdoor in parking-lot, in commercial centers, washing car centers, garages, building services, hospitals, distribution networks, camping places, public swimming places, marinas, traffic signs, control equipment for automatic watering for agriculture, public garden equipment for protection and control, zoos, shows and exhibitions for stands, mobile shows, festivals and concerts, theme and attraction parks INDUSTRY Motor control cabinets, triangle motor applications, pump command applications, water treatment, thermic centrals, alimentatory factories, lift control panel, control equipment for machines

7 Gemini On Gemini you can install: IP degree of protection = IP66
Overview Gemini  On Gemini you can install: DIN components MCCB’s automation components power terminals IP degree of protection = IP66 Other features: Colour: grey RAL7035 24 up to 216 DIN modules Rated uninterrupted current, Iu ≦ 400A Rated service voltage, Ue ≦ 690V Insulation class II Operating temperature: -25°C ÷ +100°C IK10 GWT = 750°C

8 Overview Range Gemini will put forward a complete range of sizes to meet all installation requirements Internal and external dimensions (mm) WIDTH 24 (12x2) 54 (18x3) 72 (18x4) 96 (24x4) 120 (24x5) 216 (36x6) HEIGHT DEPTH MODULI DIN SIZE 1 2 3 4 5 6

9 Standards and approvals
Overview Standards and approvals The Gemini enclosures fully comply with the requirements of the EN (IMQ approval) and IEC 60670, and allow the configuration of boards required by IEC Standard EN 50298 “Empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. General requirements.” IEC “Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. Part 1 – Type tested and partially type-tested assemblies”

10 IP degree: IP66 Gemini has a very high degree of protection
Overview IP degree: IP66 Gemini has a very high degree of protection The IP degree indicates the degree of protection against the penetration of solid bodies (first digit) and against water penetration (second digit) The 1st “6” means “totally dust proof” (no dust can penetrate) The 2nd “6” means protected against jets of water similar to sea waves

11 Double insulation and IK degree
Overview Double insulation and IK degree Gemini is an insulating enclosure. The double insulation symbol means that Gemini provides a protection against indirect contacts. The mechanical resistance is 20 Joule. This means that Gemini reaches the highest range of the IK degree: IK10 (EN 50102)

12 Glow Wire Test Self-extinguishing degree of protection
Overview Glow Wire Test Self-extinguishing degree of protection GWT (Glow wire Test, according to IEC Standards): simulates the types of thermal stress in order to assess the danger of fire using a simulation. Gemini reaches a test temperature of 750°C

13 Overview Environment Gemini was born with a design goal of total recycling capacity: a radical change introduced into a sector dominated by a material not recyclable, such as polyester. A LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) report has been compiled during the design phase Gemini has adequate instructions on how to dispose the product at the end of its life The use of thermoplastic material has led to the production of a switchboard which is 100% ecologically compatible

14 Overview Web All the information (catalogues, certifications, instruction sheets,…) about Gemini series will be available on Internet.

15 SECTION 2: INNOVATION FACTORS
Product innovations Material innovations Process innovations

16 No need of tools! Product innovations
factors Product innovations Mounting fastness (few parts, all snap-on fixing without using tools): Door Frame DIN rails Cover panels TMAX kit Wiring ducts kit Base plates Inner door No need of tools!

17 Gemini is not a squared box!
Innovation factors Product innovations Nice aesthetic design thanks to co-injection moulding The aesthetic design of the transparent door is a coordinated project on image of ABB products “Round” aesthetic design Gemini is not a squared box!

18 Innovation factors Product innovations Frame with integrated vertical wiring duct (ABB patented) Frontal cabling: comfort in the wiring process (no need of turning upside-down the frame)

19 Innovation factors Material innovations Almost all the competitors are offering GRP (glass reinforced polyester) switchboards: Gewiss: 46QP series Hager: Londra series Legrand: Marina series Schneider/Sarel: Thalassa series GE/Vynckier: Aria series Himel: Polymel series Only Scame offers a thermoplastic switchboard (traditional single injection process)

20 Material innovations The Gemini thermoplastic material versus GRP:
factors Material innovations The Gemini thermoplastic material versus GRP: has the same sturdiness has the same mechanical features has the same resistance to oils plus: keeps its mechanical features over time is safe to handle (there are problems in polyester panels due to the glass fibre contained in the GRP coming to the surface) is completely recyclable

21 Innovation factors Material innovations The environmental friendliness and safety are major issues to which utility companies, top GRP boxes users, are more and more sensitive

22 Innovation factors Process innovations The co injection process allows to get a sandwich of two materials, with a compact external skin and an expanded core Advantages : Allows to obtain a product less heavy than GRP: average –20% Allows to use 5/6 mm thickness for the box, so the sturdiness is the same of the GRP products

54 SECTION 4: COMPETITORS

55 Competitors Competitors Depending on the countries, the market leader is one of the followings: Gewiss 46QP Scame Easybox Hager-Lume Londra Legrand Marina GE / Vynckier Aria Schneider / Sarel Thalassa Himel Polymel

56 Competitors Made of… We can group the competitors’ switchboards by material as follows:    GRP switchboards Glass Reinforced Polyester Thermosetting material PBT switchboards (only SCAME) PolyButylene Terephthalate Thermoplastic material

57 Competitors GRP switchboards Competitors: Gewiss, Schneider, Hager, GE/Vynckier, Legrand, Hymel Advantages: Good mechanical properties Disadvantages: They’re not safe to handle due to the glass fiber coming to surface They lose their mechanical features after the glass fiber coming to surface (limited UV resistance) They’re not recyclable They need tools to assemble the components ugly aesthetic (it’s a squared box!)

58   PBT switchboards Competitor: SCAME (Easybox series)
Easybox switchboards are made with a traditional single injection technology Advantages: They’re recyclable They’re looking “good” Disadvantages: They’re flexible and give a perception of weak products (they’re having a very limited success) They need tools to assemble the components

59  Choosing ABB… Advantages: Disadvantages:
Competitors Choosing ABB… Advantages: same mechanical features of GRP products keep mechanical properties over time IP66 degree of protection safe to handle Less heavy (avg. –20%) 100% recyclable Versatility (wide range of accessories) Integrated vertical wiring ducts and very simple snap-on assembling operations without using tools (time saving = cost saving) Disadvantages: … we don’t find any
