1 Social Development Theory by Lev Vygotsky Presented by: Adam, Lauren, and Ashley

2 Some basic facts Who: Lev Vygotsky When: he was born on November 5, 1896 and died June11, 1934 Where: he was born in Russia

3 Lev Vygotsky He was a “Soviet Psychologist” and he also study “linguistics and philosophy at Moscow University.” He then became interested in doing research and so he did for the “Institute of Psychology.” (in Moscow)

4 Information Lev Vygotsky also “focused on the role of social and cultural factors in the making of human conscience.” This is what lead him to begin with his theory of social development.

5 Information continued “His works emphasize the socially transmitted knowledge of the teacher and the active engagement of the child in the learning process.”

6 Four interesting facts 1913: he won a gold medal 1917: he taught at various institutes He was fluent in German and French He also had a degree in law

7 “Social Development Theory argues that social interaction precedes development; consciousness and cognition are the end product of socialization and social behavior.”
