1 DET NSW School Based Student Reporting Version 3 An Overview

2 What is SBSR3? SBSR3 is a software application that: has been developed by DET can ensure compliance with DET policy on reporting to parents* is web-based and can be used from any computer with internet access and appropriate browser is available free to government schools * Note: Version 3.0 (released 16 October 2006) requires use of A-E scale. Version 3.1 (available 6 November 2006) will allow use of either A-E scale or word descriptors.

3 Why develop SBSR? SBSR has been developed to assist government schools to prepare their reports to parents. Use of the SBSR software will allow: The creation of reports that meet the particular needs of K, 1-6, 7-10 and 11-12 The production of a consistent report format to parents School effort to be minimised Teacher access from home and school

4 Process for Using SBSRv3 Authorise use of SBSR Principal (or delegate) uses the Access Management Utility (AMU) found on the “My application” tab of the DET Portal Create reporting period and import from OASIS SBSR3 School Coordinator enters data about: reporting template to be used reporting dates other school activities, social development and commitment to learning tables use of an effort meter and general comment how attendance is reported.

5 Process for Using SBSRv3 Customise reports for ESL and Learning Adjustment students; Manage Students SBSR Year Coordinator checks reporting groups for accuracy amends strands if applicable moves or creates students as required sets Reporting Groups “Ready for teacher entry” Teachers complete reports. Data entry can be by either course or student Enter achievement and KLA / subject comments

6 Process for Using SBSRv3 Summary reports available to teachers and supervisors to finalise reports. Other Activities table to be completed. Reports “Set for final approval” Approve and print Reports Reports can be generated by: Student Class Year Cohort Reports downloaded to school for printing Review reports

7 Web Based SBSR3 software has been developed by the DET and is free to government schools Access to the software is available directly from the internet or via a link in the DET Portal SBSR3 is a web based application and requires no installation or backup by schools. It is accessible, from any web-based computer, to those teachers who have been authorised as users by their principals Software can be run from any Macintosh or PC that is connected to the internet by an appropriate browser Features of SBSR3

8 Provides a range of Reporting Templates There are a number of reporting templates available to schools (A to E or descriptors) Options exist within SBSR to customise reports for ESL and Learning Adjustments students for Years K, 1-6, 7-10 and 11-12.) 9 Imports from OASIS SBSR Software extracts school reporting setup information (including teacher and students names and classes) from OASIS Features of SBSR3

10 Provides flexibility in Student Management A Student Management facility exists within the software. Students can be created or moved between classes. Students can be identified as requiring an ESL or Learning Adjustment report. Features of SBSR3

11 Provides easy data entry for teachers Spell checker and word count available to teachers Comment starters available for Primary school teachers Features of SBSR3

12 Teacher Entry Screen Teachers can enter their results by student or course By Course By Student

13 Provides a range of User Reports A variety of specialised reports can be generated from the software including a Peer Comparison Report (number of A to E’s awarded per year per KLA) and Progress reports (number of reports incomplete). Summary reports are also available to teachers to review data entered. The Reviewer can view information by student or class. Features of SBSR3

14 Allows a range of printing options SBSR will generate student reports individually, as a class group, as a year cohort or as a whole school All reports requested from SBSR can be downloaded or sent as an email at any time. They are stored permanently. Features of SBSR3

15 Help in SBSR3 Online help is available within the software consisting of role defined Quick Reference Guides and Flash videos

16 Authority to use SBSR3 Users’ permissions within the software are provided by the principal or delegate authorising SBSR3 roles. This process requires the principal to use the Access Management Utility (AMU) which is located in their ‘My Applications’ tab within the DET portal
