Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 Phase 4

Parametric Modeling Parametric Modeling is using the computer to design objects by modeling their components with real world behaviors or attributes.

1. Log in and start Inventor 2. Start a new Standard.ipt on the XY plane. 3. Wait here!

Use the Rectangle draw tool to create a rectangle.

First, use the Dimension Constraint Tool to set the height to 2 inches and the length to 4 inches. Then, click the Finish Sketch icon when you are done.

Extrude Extrude means to push or thrust out; add depth This is when we go to 3D!!!

You are now in Isometric View. Notice the different tools on your ribbon. You are now using the 3D model tab.

Click on “Extrude”

Or you can enter the Z measurement/ depth right here. You can click the arrow to pull down more options. Change the depth to 4 inches and press enter. Then click on Home View.

Use these drop down menus to change the material and color. Click on the “Default” and change the color to anything you choose.

To Summarize… Step 1 Extrude Constrain Geometry (Set your Dimensions) Sketch Your Base Shape Step 3 Step 2 The Steps in Parametric Modeling

Adding a Feature to a Solid Model Step 1 Add Sketch Plane to surface on which geometry will be sketched This is when you need “Sketch 2.”

Click on the paper and pencil icon to create a new 2D sketch. (Not 3D sketch)

As you run your mouse over the 3D figure, you will notice that different sides of the object highlight. Click on the top, or Face.

You should now see a 2D view, complete with 2 axes lines; in this case being the X axis and the Z axis. Your view cube should say “Top.”

Look at your ribbon. You are back in 2D Sketch Mode. You also now see “Sketch 2” showing in your browser.

Make a point somewhere on the top of your object. Use the dimension constraint tool to make sure it is 2 inches from each side. (Centered)

Now click “Finish Sketch” to go back to 3D mode and Isometric View. You should still be able to see the sketch you just drew.

Select the “Hole” Tool.

This menu gives you many options.

Change the “Termination” from “Through All” to “Distance.” Then set the depth to 1 inch. Set the diameter of the hole to.75 inches.

Now try to create this next feature by following the step by step pictures.
