Objectives To identify steps in taking responsibility for your own communication. To explore the use of words, tone of voice, and body language in communication. Recognize and understand the power of communication. Learn techniques to manage and ensure proper communication.

Definition of Communication Communication is the activity of conveying meaningful information.information Communication requires a sender, a message, and an intended recipient, although the receiver need not be present or aware of the sender's intent to communicate at the time of communication; thus communication can occur across vast distances in time and space.message

Communication is also… feelings/shared understanding. If you can honestly achieve that goal, you are communicating.

Establish Common Goals Think about the other person and his/her goals. Build the bridge from the other side. If you don’t know, ask. Listen and sincerely care. Help by asking questions to clarify their goals. Frequently restate the goals.

Activity: 1. Oral Instructions Your task, without visual cues, you will use precise language, emphasizing effective communication skills. THE TASK: Look at a picture and instruct your group on what to draw. The activity forces you the instructor to give specific steps using words to complete the task. Compare the result with the original to see how well the participants communicated.

Questions (answer on a piece of paper) 1. Do you think you communicate well? If so, give an example of who you communicate well with. If not, give an example. 2. What skills did you learn today that you think you will use when communicating with others in the future. 3. How important do you think communication is in our daily life? 4. What can you do to improve your communication skills…everyone can improve. Explain why. Pass in at the end of class…(portfolio)
