2  Autonomous community in northern Spain, situated on the Bay of Biscay. It consists of the provinces of Gipuzkoa / Guipúzcoa, Bizkaia / Vizcaya and Araba / Álava. It occupies an area of 7.3 thousand km². In 2001, the total population of approximately 2.1 million people. Most live in the provinces of the Basque Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa. The community is the capital of Vitoria-Gasteiz. From the west it borders with Cantabria and Castile and Leon, south of La Rioja and Navarre the east.

3  Building of the Basque Country is governed by the Spanish Constitution of 1978 and the Statute of the Autonomous Basque passed by the Cortes Generales December 22, 1979 a year, known as the Statute of Guernica.  The Constitution provides for the division of Spain into provinces, which may, however, combine to form an autonomous community. This power has been used by all the Spanish provinces. One of the autonomous communities is the Basque Country, which consists of three provinces.

Four of the head), also known as the Basque cross and Basque swastika - one of the main and oldest symbols of Basque.  Lauburu symbolizes the sun moving playing an important role in Basque mythology, it was believed that the amulet has the power to ward off evil spirits and bring prosperity and health.

6  Language is one of the most important elements necessary for the formation of national identity. The Basques call themselves - euskalduna, meaning "one who has euskara", but about the area they live - Euskadi Herria. Basque language, called by the Basque Euskara, is now the only surviving in western Europe nieindoeuropejskim living language, so completely different from the rest of the European languages that linguists have a serious problem with its classification. The uniqueness of the Basque language meant that over the centuries, a number of concepts of its origin, including the so improbable as that the Basque already told Adam and Eve in paradise, that the language used to communicate with sea monsters, or there was something in common with the ancient Egyptian.
