4 9/30/2013 4 Task NameTask Details to Consider Research and evaluate training tools via web site searches and if you employ a billing company, check with them for possible training tools Insure tools are geared for your specialty Consider all types training tools. i.e. tutorial, training books, flash cards Identify price ranges for each set of tools Identify for each level of training which tools make the best fit/value for your practice Consider each individual has their own method of learning Some like internet, should like structured discussions Secure or develop tools for training needs If you are arranging for seminars, keep in mind they may become sold out if demand escalates during 2013 so commit early If you develop your own tools, insure accuracy 2. 6 6 Task NameTask Details to Consider By position levels, create a preliminary training schedule indicating month, date, and hours Based on complexity of training, insure you do not try to plan training too close to October 2014 However, remember training performed early in 2014 will be forgotten if not continually reviewed/reinforced up to October 2014 Review the preliminary training schedule with staff to insure no conflicts with vacations, coverage, etc. Reinforce training has to be 100% commitment Multitasking during training is not permitted May need to schedule after or before practice opens to public Finalize and distribute training schedule To secure buy in from staff that schedule is to be honored Prepare evaluation feedback sheet for each session To provide for objective feedback if material was understood Provide areas for suggestions to help learning process 4. 8 Insure training schedule is not started too early or too late based on each position training needs and complexity Do not rely on just presenting written handouts and letting staff learn on their own If you have outside billing company, be sure to share your training program with them before finalized for input They may have training tools available for your use They may want to coordinate their training needs with your schedule Consider leveraging your training program with other physician practices where practical and/or logical Be sure you check the content of outside training seminars. There will be significant ICD-10 training programs offered in 2014 Some may be geared to hospitals, some may be geared to certified coders Select those geared to physician office practices.
