Summarize Question Clarify Connect and Predict What is the main idea – what is this mostly about? Name the 3-4 supporting details that support that idea Summarize the main idea and details in your own words Ask a question about the main idea. Ask a text structure question Ask a trillion-dollar question “What if? Why?” Words? Vocabulary? Ideas? Think what makes sense Look for parts, suffixes, affixes Read the sentence before & after Use context clues (definition, example, explanation) Connect ideas to self, text, world Think what you know about the topics ( lessons, friends, books, movies, family) Predict what the author will discuss next 1 2 3 4

Summarize Summarize the paragraph. Include the category (main idea) and 2-3 details in your summary. Clarify the Clunks 1. Think about what makes sense. 2.Use context- Reread the sentence before and after the clunk for clues 3.Look for a prefix or suffix 4.Break the word into smaller parts Question 1. Ask questions about the main ideas 2. Ask text structure questions 3. Ask questions about what doesn’t make sense?
