What does a day in Reception look like? - Put fruit in basket - Pegging in board - Ready Steady Go time - Inside / outside classroom with a focus based around our current topics - Fruit and milk time - Swap sessions - Lunch time - Afternoons are a continuation of our learning using both the inside and outside classrooms.

Top Tips Independently use the toilet including washing and drying hands Taking coats & jumpers on and off Zips, buttons and poppers Recognising their own name Opening and closing their school bag and fruit pot Independence on arrival Practise getting changed into their PE kits

Reading in school Reading meetings – Wednesday 1 st October 2pm & 7pm Thursday 2 nd October 9am Sharing books Banded books when appropriate for each child Communication diary – Reading and Maths comments Library – any volunteers?

Handwriting Continuous cursive style Starting with an effective pencil grip and good posture Handwriting patterns before letters Develop fine motor control

Mathematics Counting, recognising, ordering numbers and writing numbers to 10 and beyond Making amounts to match a number Comparing numbers –‘more than and less than’ Combining two groups of objects (addition) and making groups smaller (subtraction) Try to use numbers, counting and shape recognition at home and when out and about Recognise and name 2D shapes and use them to create models

EYFS Assessment Profile Learning Journey Each child will have their own learning journey. Photographs and observations Welcome comments and observations from you. At October half term and each school holiday we will send home paper and some ideas of fun learning opportunities you may like to do We will share the Learning Journey with you at each Parent Conference

Thursday open afternoon You are welcome to come into the classroom to look at what your child has been learning Please wait outside for the whole class to be dismissed. A chance for you and your child to share the weeks work. However, this may not be recorded on paper or in their books Please respect the privacy of others and only look at your child’s work

Reminders Your child needs to have at school every day – Communication diary A coat and jumper A waterproof jacket and a sunhat A named cup for water (no bottles) Named Fruit pot or bag PE kit (after half term) AOB Don’t forget to talk to us about your child readiness for school Allergies Please write messages on class white board, see teacher at door or ask your child to hand their communication book to their teacher if there is a message News letters and other school communication emailed PPA on a Thursday afternoon Parent conferences – Rabbits: Thursday 6 th & Thursday 13th November Otters: Monday 10 th & Thursday 13th November Foxcubs: Thursday 13 th Website will be up dated weekly www.horsell-village.surrey.sch.uk
