2.  A cataract is a clouding of your lens in your eye(s) that can cause impaired vision.  More than half of Americans ages 65 and older have cataracts. Cataracts are a result of aging.  Babies can be born with cataracts from infection, injury, poor development when born or childhood.

3.  Cataracts happens as a result of a build up of protein in the lens that makes the lens cloudy. When it gets cloudy it prevents light from passing through your lens, causing your vision to be blurry. New lens form on the outside of the lens, then causing older cells get formed onto the new cells forming the cataract.  They can form also from diabetes, exposure to drugs or radiation, and smoking.

5.  Vision that is cloudy, foggy or filmy  Nearsightness in older people.  Changes in the way you see color.  Problems driving at night because of glare from headlights.  Problems with glare during the day.  Double Vision.

6.  The only effective treatment for cataracts is surgery.  When you have the surgery, it is to remove the clouded lens, and replacing it with a clear artificial lens.  It is placed in the same place as the natural lens and is a permanent part of your eye(s).
