Usos del Pronombre "Se" Jessica Trammell
2
¿Qué está "se?" Se is an indirect object pronoun that refers to a third person. A third person includes them/he/she. En Español, tercera persona incluyé ellos/ellas/él/ella/usted/ustedes. Different pronouns are used for yo (me), tú (te), and nosotros (nos).
3
How to To use the pronoun "se," simply add it in front of the action that is taking place, or attach it to the end of the verb when the subject has been introduced (like in "los padres oírse"). To form a sentence using passive se, you use se + the third person form of a verb.
4
A Reflexive Pronoun Se can be used in the same way that "himself" or "themselves" are used. Por ejemplo, Los padres no pueden oírse. The parents can't hear themselves.
5
Impersonal When paired with a singular verb, se can be used to talk about people in general, or no particular person. Usually used for custom, rule, or general consensus. Se maneja rápidamente. People drive fast. Se puede buscar naranjas en el mercado. You can find oranges in the market.
6
Substituting "le" or "les" In the case that the indirect object pronouns "le"or "les" come directly before another pronoun, "le" or "les" are replaced with "se." This is to avoid a double pronoun, like "le lo." No se lo voy a dar a ellos. I'm not going to give it to them.
7
Passive Voice When combined with a verb, se can also be used to indicate an action without a specific person doing the action. To form the passive se, you use a transitive verb (one that requires you to use the pronoun) and in most cases, the object or subject will be an inanimate object. Using the passive se when referring to a person isn't common.
8
Examples of Passive Se Third person singular for one object Se perdieron los llaves. The keys were lost. Third person plural for more than one object. Se venden carros hoy. Cars are being sold today.
9
Practicá Pablo sees himself in the mirror. You cannot smoke here. The doors are opened. He told it to him. Pablo se ve en el espejo. No se puedo fumar aqui. Se abren las puertas. Se lo dijo a él.
10
Impersonal and Passive se are commonly confused with eachother. How to tell the difference? Passive se will typically always involve inanimate objects. Impersonal se will always involve people (in general), instruction, etc. Se escribe el libro en español. ¿Cómo se dice "perro" en inglés? How do you say dog in English? The book is written in Spanish.
