What is it? Damage or development issues “Broca Area” Can not speak or has trouble speaking Usually deals with the inability of tongue Muscle Also Known as expressive aphasia

Lesions near the outer cortex and wernicke area

Diagnosed? Easily diagnosed with a mri or ct scan prominent lesions Speech impediment if not genetically prone, caused by serious trauma, such as a stroke over 25% of people who suffer from stroke will get some form of aphasia

Discovered? Paul Broca... shocker Mid 1800’s same time carl wernicke discovered... wait for it... wernicke’s area both the broca area and wernicke’s area are part of the cerebral cortex

Medication? Medications are similar to those used with alzheimer patients cholinergic Drugs- Raise acetylcholine Piracetam- Greatest chance of improving language capability

Treated? No real treatment General speech therapy known for spontaneous recovery (noted in patients who have just suffered from a stroke No procedure is noted (sorry Miller, no blood)
