Objectives Introduce Peace Corps Response Program Prompt informal discussion on further collaboration across the USG in the FSM and Palau

Peace Corps Response (PCR) Opportunities for experienced professionals with at least 10 years of experience. Helps to meet critical capacity-building needs per PC’s first goal: To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women. Assignments range from three months to one year in length.

History Started in 1996 as the Crisis Corps due to flooding in the Caribbean Spring 2005: Thailand and Sri Lanka September 2005: Hurricane Katrina September 2007: Name changed to Peace Corps Response June-August 2014: First FSM group of PCR Volunteers commence service

PCR At A Glance Averages: Application process of approximately 3 months Positions in nearly 50 countries in all PC’s programmatic sectors Over 300 positions last year Over 2,000 PCR Volunteers to date

PCR Volunteers Serve in high-impact project based assignments. Bring a wealth of experience and expertise to projects. Posses cross cultural sensitivity. Meet language and educational requirements needed to excel in an assignment. Respond to humanitarian crisis. In the FSM primarily work in Education, Health and Youth in Development.

Identify a project need Contact the Peace Corps Country Director Collaborate with Peace Corps staff in country to develop a full program description Sign an Memorandum of Understanding outlining responsibilities of the Partner Organization and the PC Position is advertised and best qualified is selected Volunteer departs for country, has one-week orientation at Post, then begins service How to Request a PCR Volunteer

PCRVs offer USG mechanism for persistent on-the-ground engagement with host country officials and agencies PCRVs build relationships that are beneficial for future development initiatives PCRVs offer ways to assist the FSM and Palau to reach objectives in their strategic development plans PCRVs build on past USG investments
