3 Social Issue: Women’s Rights Discrimination against women’s voting rights, education, and personal security. Socio-beliefs on women’s education being unnecessary and dangerous. Only 12.6% of women in Afghanistan are educated. Estimated 1 million extremely poor Afghan widowed women. 50% of children under 5 suffer from malnutrition

4 Why Where They Poor? Lack of resources. Limited arable (able to grow crops) land. Rain and precipitation is rare. Illiteracy of men and women is very low (about 90% of women, 63% of men are illiterate). Income depends on agricultural activities (ex. farming, selling crops). Lack of infrastructure materials. CORRUPT GOVERNMENT!!!!

5 Economical Issues Average GDP of the nation is about $400-$800 per capita. Lots of money sponsored from external nations/organizations (over $50 billion) were too heavily spent to pay for war debts. The country was under Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001. They were extremely corrupt.
