2 Executive Order S-20-04 All State buildings over 50,000 square feet shall be LEED-EB Silver or greater The following programs can earn up to 10 LEED points in the Materials and Resource (MR) category and 4 in the Sustainable Sites (SS) category

3 Team Approach to LEED-EB certification Project Administrations On-Site Field Staff Building Occupant Sustainability Activities

4 Step 1: Assign a “Green Champion” Requirements: Building Occupant interfacing with the Building Management Familiar with purchasing, recycling and acquisitions of furniture and equipment Enthusiasm for this “green” movement

5 Step 2: Alternative Transportation Program Encourage Alternative Transportation – Communication plan – Informational Website – Flyers – Transportation passes – Locker facilities – Bike locker area – Shuttle system – Parking incentives

6 Sustainable Sites Credit: SS credit 4 Divide number of people that are: ~ Bicycle commuters ~ Public Transportation commuters ~ Car/Vanpooler commuters ~ Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) personal commuters BY: ~Total Number of people using building Record % of Occupants using Alternative Transportation ALSO Encouraged: ~ Public Transportation for work related trips ~ AFV work related trips

7 Step 3: Coordinate with Project Administrator to clearly define “ongoing consumables” and “durable goods” Durable Goods: Electrical Powered Equipment Appliances External power adapters Televisions Audiovisual equipment Durable Goods: Furniture Cubicle partitions & panels Tables Office chairs Ongoing Consumables: Paper Toner Cartridges Glass Plastics Cardboard Food Wastes Metals Desk Accessories

8 Step 4: Recycling Programs Set up a robust recycling program and track disposal rates Recycling bins Recycling of batteries Recycling office supplies Information on website Set up opportunities to compost food waste

9 Ongoing Consumables: MR credit 7 Record % of waste recycled Have recycling vendor provide “hauler” documentation Emphasis on recycle bin collection so that separation is preserved Educational Signage File AB 75 records

10 Set up program to collect old batteries Advertise program with informational flyers and website Keep records of disposal rate Ongoing Consumables: MR credit 7 Target: 80% diversion of used batteries All portable dry-cell type including: Single use or rechargeable used in radios, cameras, computers and other devices or equipment

11 Materials & Resources: MR credit 8 Record % of recycled or reused durable goods Durable Goods: Electrical Powered Equipment

12 Step 5: Purchasing Programs Track all purchases for ongoing consumables and durable goods according to Step 3 definitions. Purchasing resources: Environmental Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Best Practices Manual at www.green.ca.gov

13 State Agency Buy Recycle Campaign (SABRC) filing File reports per SABRC Good record keeping Ongoing Consumables: MR credit 1 Record % of recycle content products purchased

14 Materials and Resources: MR credit 2.1 Record % of purchases by cost Track purchases of Durable Goods: Electrical Powered Equipment Appliances External power adapters Televisions Audiovisual equipment

15 Materials and Resources: MR credit 2.2 State Purchasing Process provides structure for Document Management: Buy from Prison Industry Authority (PIA) Buy other which requires filing waiver with PIA Buy salvage furniture from warehouse Record % of sustainable purchases by cost Durable goods: Furniture (salvaged or with recycled content)

16 Step 6: Material & Resources: MR credits 3 & 9 Facility Alterations and Additions Provide LEED – EB Project Administrator with up-to-date list of all facility alterations or additions

17 Project Manual or Special Repair In the event of any Facility Alterations or Additions Specifications for: Erosion and Sedimentation Control Construction and Demolition Waste Construction Indoor Air Management
