West Yellowstone, Montana

West Yellowstone was incorporated in 1966 but has existed as a gateway community to Yellowstone National Park since the early 1900s. Has a population of approximately 1200 people. visitation to West Yellowstone tops 3.5 million people per year. Four-season destination, with camping, hiking and fly-fishing in the warmer months and snowmobiling and Nordic skiing when the snow flies. Bordered on three sides by National Forests

Things to do. Visit one of the national parks around the city. Walk through the old town and buildings. Go skiing/snowboarding. Go snowmobiling Go hiking. Go on tours.

Special events Enjoy a great family-friendly 4th of July starting with a town yard sale, Fireman’s BBQ and a parade anyone can participate in! End with a great fireworks display set against a backdrop of mountains. Summer weekends include the Wild West Yellowstone Rodeo with bucking broncos and bulls. Kids can cowboy up by participating in the Calf Scramble. The Smokin’ Waters Mountain Man Rendezvous is a 10-day living history encampment with demonstrations, classes and wares. The annual Yellowstone Rod Run weekend includes an antique car show, parade and run through Yellowstone. Heritage quilt, bluegrass, music festivals, artisan fairs and more!

Guided Tours. Three different National Forests surround West Yellowstone: the Gallatin, Targhee and Beaverhead. These forests offer scenic vistas, high mountain meadows, lakes and rivers, along with an extensive trail system. During the warm months, you can take a guided hike, horseback trail ride or hunting expedition
