1
Warm - Up Graph the linear equation 2y + 4x = -2.
2
Review Special Linear Equations y = any number example: graph y = 5 X = any number example: graph x = 2 y = x
3
Linear System of Inequalities
4
Reminder Linear system in two variables – Has a solution that is an ordered pair (x, y). This is the point where the two linear equations intersect.
5
Linear Inequalities To check solutions for linear inequalities we substitute the given (x,y) point into the inequality. Example: Tell Whether the ordered pairs (5, -1) and (-2, 6) are solutions of the inequality 2x + 3y > 9.
6
Graphing linear inequalities Put the equation into y = mx + b form. Determine whether you will need a solid or dotted line. Graph the equation using the appropriate line. Shade the solution side of the equation. Test a point on each side of the linear equation.
7
Graphing the inequalities Example: Graph y > 1, 2x + y -3 -2x
8
Graphing a system of inequality Example: Graph the system of inequality y< x + 2 y > -1
9
Example Graph the system of inequality y < x + 2 y > -1 x > 2
