PCSOM Information for those leaving for Rotations

Internet Service PCSOM will reimburse you up to $23 per month for the next two years (as long as you remain enrolled at PCSOM). This reimbursement will cover any cost of Internet Service up to $23 – and no more than the cost of your new providers monthly rate (i.e., if your new Internet Service Provider charges $15 per month – PCSOM will reimburse you $15 per month. If your new Internet Service Provider charges $50 per month – PCSOM will reimburse you $23 per month.) Send questions regarding this to jslone@pc.edu

Internet Cont… Receiving reimbursement will require you to submit a copy of your Internet Service monthly statement. Below is a schedule of statement submissions and scheduled reimbursements. Aug – January: Submit proof of Internet Service by Mid Sept Checks will be mailed out at the end of September Feb – July: Submit proof of Internet Service by Mid March Checks will be mailed out at the end of March Aug – January: Submit proof of Internet Service by Mid Sept Checks will be mailed out at the end of September Feb – May: Submit proof of Internet Service by Mid March Checks will be mailed out at the end of March

Procedures for Computer Repairs For all technical service calls please contact the PC help-desk line at: 606-218-5300 or via e- mail at: helpdesk@pc.edu. A Technical Representative will attempt to resolve this matter over the telephone (be sure to send a contact telephone number if you send an e-mail). If the matter requires hardware replacement or an issue that can’t be resolved via telephone or e-mail you will have to place a call to Dell Technical Support for Help.

Dell offers free technical support and will come out to your location to fix your hardware issue. The number to call for this free service is: 1-800-274-7799 You can also do a chat session with a Dell Technician at: support.dell.com then choose Chat Online with Dell Technical Support.

Issues Covered Under Dell Warranty AC/Power Adapter Computer Parts e.g.: Motherboard, Screen, Network Components, keyboard… etc Keep a good backup because Dell will not restore your data when they come out to replace a component such as the hard drive.

Virus/Spyware Removal Malware Bytes ComboFix Download these and store on a USB key so you will have them in case you get infected or your computer starts running slow.

Keeping a fast running system Clear out browser cache/cookies once a week. Do not download and install large amounts of software. Run disk cleanup once every 3 months. Do not defrag the hard drive often. Once a year is plenty enough.

Software to Avoid Bearshare / FrostWire My Web Search Weather Bug Web Shots Browser Toolbars (these will slow down your browser) We will only support software that is provided to you from the college.

Good Backups Make good Back ups of your data. Back up your data at least once a week. We do not have the resources to keep your data safe if your computer malfunctions. Use a USB External Hard-Drive at least 80gig in size.
