Project Mercury First national manned space flight project – Object: Get men on the moon Goals: – Orit a manned spacecraft around Earth – Investigate man’s ability to function in space – Recover man and spacecraft safely Lasted 5 years 7 astronauts 6 missions (May 1961-May 1963) Project Mercury Launch

Project Gemini Second national manned space program 2 man crew 12 flights – Including 2 unmanned flight test of equipment Goals: – Subject man/equipment to space flight up to two weeks – To meet with orbiting vehicles – The perfect methods of entering the atmosphere and landing at a pre-selected place The third goal was not met- project was cancelled in 1964

Apollo Mission 11 Primary objective – Goal set by President John F. Kennedy – Perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth.
