A Godly Family In An Ungodly World God’s Formula For Successful Marriages
2
Introduction We have learned that the rules and instructions on how we are to treat others are the same basic rules for a spouse to treat their own spouse. This is also to be done as an example to the children in the home, so that they will learn to treat others properly. That is why the home is considered the backbone of society.

Love One Another John 15:12 “This is My commandment, that you love one another; just as I have loved you”. 1 Peter 1:22 “Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart”.
4
LOVE 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, …”
5
LOVE 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “ does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…”
6
LOVE We could spend an entire sermon on each of these qualities. We also need to remember that the love expressed here is not limited to a husband/wife relationship. It is a rule for ALL human relationships.
7
THE ROLE OF EACH God’s formula tells us the husband is the head of the wife. God also tells the husband how to treat his wife. God tells the wife to be in subjection and how to treat her husband. In reality, a husband who loves his wife should have no problem of the wife respecting him.
8
THE ROLE OF EACH Ephesians 5:22-24 “Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the LORD. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything”.
9
THE ROLE OF EACH Ephesians 5:25,28 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her;…[28] So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself”. The comparison of how a husband is to love his wife is Jesus Christ Himself as the example.
10
THE ROLE OF EACH Ephesians 5:32-33 “This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each individual among you also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see to it that she respect her husband.
11
THE ROLE OF EACH God’s formula and rule is for the wife to be submissive. God also informs the husband to not abuse that headship. God goes on to explain these rules also apply to all of life's dealings with others.
12
THE ROLE OF EACH 1 Peter 3:1-2 “In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior”.
13
THE ROLE OF EACH 1 Peter 3:3-4 “And let not your adornment be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God”.
14
THE ROLE OF EACH 1 Peter 3:5-6 “For in this way in former times, the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands. Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear”.
15
THE ROLE OF EACH 1 Peter 3:7 “You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered”.
16
THE ROLE OF EACH While the husband is to be recognized as head of the house, he is warned to consider the needs of the wife. While the wife is to submit to her husband, she also has the right to support, encourage, and be an example to him in spiritual matters. The duty of both are to help the other get to heaven. When that duty is realized and worked upon, God’s plan is being used.
17
CONCLUSION There is so much that can be said on this subject. Most of this we learn as we go. As long as we trust in God and try our best to make Him the central focus of our family, we will have a successful family. Because that is what God wants.
