Crime Analysis/Mapping Crime Analysis is the process of analyzing crime to identify patterns and suspects. –Who is doing what to whom, where, and when. –Pattern detection Why in one area and not another ? Intelligence Analysis helps determine who’s doing what with whom by focusing on relationships between persons and organizations involved in illegal activities

Operations analysis examines agency resource utilization pertaining to personnel deployment and workload efficacy. Investigative analysis supports crime investigation by providing investigators with information and other assistance.

An Analytical Process Analysis means: –Separation of whole into is component parts –An examination of a complex phenomenon, its elements, and their relations –Separating something into component parts or constituent elements –It is an empirical process – using quantitative data –Establishing propositions and developing evidence to confirm or deny the assumptions –Identifying patterns in data and developing meaningful information from the patterns

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Crime Mapping –Maps allow us to see data in a visual format –The data is in a spatial format Events are related to a specific point in in space – the environment –Consists of events (criminal activities) and places (crime locations) –We can see relationships
