Early Life Born on July 18, 1918 From a small village in South Africa Mandela lost his father at a young Enrolled in the University of Witwatersrand to become a lawyer

Armed Resistance Mandela participated in an anti -apartheid movement Apartheid meaning “seperateness” Minority white govt. ruled majority black citizens. Blacks and different cultures were placed in ghettos, different shops, buses,etc.. Mandela and the ANC started their sabotage plan. It eventually led to their imprisonment.

Imprisonment Nelson Mandela and other members of the ANC were punished for their sabotage. They were almost sentenced death, instead being in prison for life. He moved from prison to prison. Released after 27 years on Feburary 11, 1990

After prison won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 Became the president of South Africa in 1994 Died on December 5, 2013 at age 95
