2 Mood Disorder: intense and prolonged shifts in mood A person with a mood disorder might feel very happy or very sad for long periods of time and for no apparent reason There are two main categories of mood disorders; Depressive Disorders (major depression, dysthymia) and Bipolar Disorders (also known as manic depression; mood swings from euphoria to depression).

6 Causes of disorder Biological:Increases if you have a depressed parent or sibling. Psychodynamic:You must resolve early conflicts. Abuse Certain medications Death or a loss Major events(marraige,moving,graduration etc) Other personal problems Serious illnesses Substance abuse( 30% of people with substance abuse problems also have major or clinical depression.)

7 Treatment plan Psychotherapy:" Talk therapy",help the person develop good coping strategies for dealing with everyday stressors. encourage you to use your medications properly. Anti Depressants: medicines that treat depression Interpersonal therapy: to enable people with depression to make their own needed adjustments. a manual-based treatment. That means the therapist strictly adheres to a treatment process whose effectiveness is supported by evidence. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: to help a person learn to recognize negative patterns of thought, evaluate their validity, and replace them with healthier ways of thinking.
