2. 2 What is MSDN AA? MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) is designed to provide the easiest and most inexpensive way for universities to make the latest Microsoft software available in labs, classrooms, and on student PCs. MSDN AA is an annual membership program for departments that use technology in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. The membership provides a complete, inexpensive solution to keep academic labs, faculty, and students on the leading edge of technology.

3. 3 What are the benefits? The department receives numerous benefits as part of their membership: Latest set of Microsoft platforms, servers, and developer tools. License to install the software on any number of lab machines used by the department for instructional and research purposes. License to provide the software to students taking courses that lead to credit or a certificate within the department, so they can load the software on their personal computers for use in coursework and personal projects. Electronic software distribution to students through e-academy License Management Systems (ELMS). Four technical support incidents in addition to access to the managed newsgroups and the Online Concierge.

4. 4 What Software is included with the program? MSDN AA includes a wide array of titles which are updated frequently as Microsoft ships new products. 6. 6 What are the Rules? Can departments teaching disciplines other than Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) sign up for MSDN AA? No, only departments teaching STEM disciplines are eligible for MSDN AA If I sign my department up for MSDN AA, will this cover ALL students at my University? No, MSDN AA is sold by the department and intended for use by students taking classes in the department. If students get software through MSDN AA, do they have unlimited usage of the software? No, MSDN AA software is intended for use in Academic pursuits of STEM disciplines. School work, research, academic projects, etc. are all acceptable uses. Can I install the OS on a naked machine? Yes. Provided that you intend to use that machine and the tools we give in accordance with the EULA (academic STEM usage only). Can I keep these tools after I graduate? YES. This license is perpetual, non-transferable. You don’t have to de-install the tools, but the stipulation of “Academic Use Only” does not change. In one of my classes I used MSDN AA tools to create a product that is so good that I plan to sell it. Can products I make with MSDN AA software be sold commercially? Congratulations on your great idea. The only stipulation is that you must purchase commercial licenses of all tools used in the creation of your new product prior to selling the product in a commercial situation. 7. 7 One Free MSDN AA in every Campus Agreement Enrollment! In a Campus Agreement Enrollment there is one free MSDN AA available. All that is needed is to activate it for a named department within the University or University Collage. My University has 3 Campus Agreement Enrollments, do I get 3 MSDNAA then? Answer: Yes, You just have to activate the MSDN AAs for 3 named departments at your University.

ELMS Single Sign On solution for simple student authentication No infrastructure modification solution (no-SSO): Upload eligable students to ELMS and distribute user/pwd to the students MSDN AA allows for several different methods of doing single sign-on for simplistic student authentication. Integration with the Campus Active Directory or Web Forms based authentication authenticaiton possible The student may then use the Campus assigned username and password to authenticate to ELMS No longer necessary to distribute MSDN AA access credentials, thus reducing the management of MSDN AA to an absolute minimum, while alowing for 24/7 access to software for students. In order for simplest possible access to software for students, and minimal work for IT department, we recomend that ELMS is used Also, allow all available software on MSDN AA to be downloadable via ELMS. Add download site and MSDN AA information for students on the main student pages on Campus internet/intranet site. Inform Faculty, in MSDN AA department of the MSDN AA offerings. They will love you for making their teaching easier! Upload your University logo and brand the ELMS page to your University. In order to show students the value of studying at your Univeristy. You may also consider to inform about free Microsoft Software to upcomming students in your recruiting brouchure. Marketing material of MSDNAA is available for you. Subcribe to the MSDN AA Newsletter, whenever now software becomes available you will be informed about it and mey update the ELMS site appropriatly. Ex. When Vista Business became available the newsletter informed about this in good time for the University to prepare and receive higher satisfaction from students and faculty.
