Germany’s Past, After WWI After the war, Germany had to pay billions of $’s as punishment for attacking other countries The economy collapsed and prices soared! PROBLEM???

After WW2(Germany divided) The Americans, British, French, and the soviets divided Germany West Germany was a democracy (Americans, British, and French) East Germany was communist (Soviet Union) The Berlin wall separated these 2 cities of East and West Berlin Became known as the WALL OF SHAME

COLD WAR Democracy vs. Communism Soviet Union wanted to spread communism through Europe Family and friends were separated by the cold war border EXAMPLE: after Conrad jumped over, he could no longer see his family

BYE BYE BERLIN WALL Eventually, no one wanted to stay in East Germany and it collapsed Nov.9, 1989 crowds of people began scrambling over the wall Crowds tore at the wall and took it apart block by block

Change of life in East Germany Enjoy modern TV’s, cars, new shopping malls, and better roads In 1990, The “NEW GERMANY” is created Berlin became the capital because of its central location Great Job 6 th Grade, we will be flying back to the U.S. tomorrow!!!!!!!!!
