WHO 2013 Of the 107 million blood donations collected globally, half are collected in high-income countries, home to 15% of the world’s population 107 million is a 25% increase from 2004 In low-income countries, about 65% of transfusions go to children under five; in high-income, 76% go to those over 65 Blood donation rate in high-income countries is 39 donations per 1000 population; 13 in middle-income and 4 donations in low-income. 71 countries collect >90% of their blood supply from volunteer unpaid donors; 73 countries collect >50% from replacement or paid donors.
