17 HSE warns exposing untrained workers to asbestos will be penalised 19 January 2009 The court heard that an electrician employed by Scriven installed three heat detectors and associated cabling in a commercial sized kitchen and boiler room of premises in Barclay Road, Smethwick. Although the ceiling tiles contained 5-50% brown asbestos no asbestos awareness training was given by his employer prior to commencement of the work, despite a legal requirement

19 Lincoln Magistrates' Court heard that in June 2008 the city council was refurbishing the bathroom of a property in Winn Street in the city and contracted County Waste (Lincs) Ltd to investigate the fixing of asbestos insulation boards, with a view to their removal. However, County Waste (Lincs) Ltd was not licensed to work with asbestos 3 June 2010 Council and contractors fined for unsafe asbestos removal

20 The court heard how on 13 November 2008, two maintenance workers were relocating a junction box in the Aerospace reception area at the company's site in Ironmasters Way, Stillington, Stockton on Tees. This required them to drill into asbestos insulation board without taking appropriate precautions. Teesside firm fined for potential asbestos exposure 4 June 2010
