Desert Destinations Period 7 Anna K, Blake W, Erika C

Find a Desert Near You!

Come to the Desert! You’ll stay dry! Deserts have very little precipitation Cool off in a flash flood! Get a nice tan! Sun shines almost every day of the year Cool off at night! Temperatures drop at night; you won’t even need air conditioning! Best time to visit: spring and fall for ideal weather conditions The landscape is barren, but you have a great view of mountains!

Choose Your Desert Destination! Egypt- pyramids, camel riding Arizona- hiking, biking, swimming, exploring unique plant and animal life Sahara- explore sand dunes, visit ancient museums

Things To Do Camel riding Ancient pyramid tours Biking/hiking Caving Relax in the sun Exploring ancient tombs

Plant and Animal Attractions Plants include: Cacti, tumbleweed, and the Joshua tree Animals include: Kangaroo rat, roadrunners, jack rabbit, and gray fox

Animal and Plant Adaptations in The Desert For animals, they can store water in their fatty deposits of their tails and other tissues Water can be stored in the stems and leaves of plants Some plants to not face directly up, and are at a slight slant which give the plant shading. The leaves are also shiny to reflect sunlight

Be Kind to OUR Deserts Arid environment- Be cautionary of water usage – Lack of water prevents deserts from supporting many plant and animal life. Expanding human populations on the edges of the desert strain the water supply, which affects the already sparse flora and fauna. – Help us by not hunting animals- due to the lack of desert animals, we want to make sure they’re around for a long time!
