J # 3 KINETIC ENERGY LAB PAGES 14-15 OR 16-17 Learning Target: I can construct and interpret graphical displays of data to describe the relationships of kinetic energy to the mass of an object and to the speed of an object.
2
EACH GROUP WILL TEST THE DIFFERENT KINETIC ENERGY IN GOLF BALLS AND PING PONG BALLS. YOU WILL USE A METER STICK, BOOKS, 2 PIECES OF HOTWHEELS TRACK, GOLF BALL, AND PING PONG BALL. What affects do mass and speed have on kinetic energy? Using the information collected from the web search, write a hypothesis in the : If…Then…Because… format.
3
EXAMPLE CHART YOU WILL NEED A TOTAL OF 5 OF THESE ONE FOR EACH HEIGHT YOU TEST.
4
TEST THE BALLS AT 5 DIFFERENT HEIGHTS ON THE METER STICKS AND COLLECT THE DATA OF THE FOLLOWING: TIME, DISTANCE, AND MASS How to calculate velocity: Velocity = Distance/Time Once you find all the velocity The mass of the Golf Ball is 45.8 g The Ping Pong ball’s mass is 2.3 g
5
COLLECT DATA SHARE DATA WITH THE CLASS GRAPH DATA
