A Level/BTEC/Cambridge Technical? A level, BTEC Awards and Cambridge Technical Awards are level 3 courses and all are accepted in all UK universities. * ONLY ONE APPLIED COURSE PERMITTED IN AN ACADEMIC PROFILE FOR QUB. TWO APPLIED COURSES MAY BE ACCEPTED IN UU FOR A RANGE OF COURSES. The BTEC Awards and Cambridge Technical Awards require you to build up a portfolio of coursework over a 2 year period. (The GCE A level courses have less coursework and feature more exams)

A-level Choices and Future Career plans Students are required to take 4 subjects in Year 13 Link Subjects; CoPE Level 3 Certificate (KHS) A level Health and Social Care (SRC) BTEC Construction (SRC). BTEC Engineering (KHS) A level Moving Images (KHS)

Subject Specific Requirements Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Allied Health, Nursing, Engineering and Architecture degree courses require you to study specific subjects. Other degree areas require you achieve specified grades – Law AAA-AAB, Business Management ABB.

Health Sciences and Nursing Physiotherapy, *Radiography (GCSE and A Level Physics required) and Podiatry all require one A level science subject. Dietetics and Optometry require 2 A level Sciences – *Chemistry essential for Dietetics and Physics required for Optometry. Nursing courses – A level Biology is required in some universities but listed as “preferable” in others.

Engineering Degree Courses Applicants must have GCSE Maths grade A/B and A level Maths at a minimum grade B standard. Universities will expect students to offer A level Physics for MOST engineering courses It is desirable that one other A level subject is taken from; Technology, Engineering, Geography, Chemistry or Biology.

St Louis Option Booklet Research the subjects in detail and look carefully at the method of assessment to see if the course suits you. Consider all the careers information at the start of the booklet before finally selecting subjects Seek advice from your teachers, talk with your parents and visit the careers resource room.
