Chavin civilization 900-300 BCE These people established trade and were the first farmers in the Andes, cultivating potatoes Inca civilization 1300- 1533 CE Highly developed Cities were built with precise stonework in mountainous terrain Used terrace farming Excellent metal workers

There are 3 main land regions: the coast, which is where most cities, farming and factories are located The highlands, which include the Andes mountains ranging from 6,500 ft all the way to 22, 200 feet, people in the higher elevations depend on llamas for income and transportation The seleva, which is made up of foothills and tropical rainforest Peru is home to Lake Titicaca which is the highest navigable lake in the world The economy of Peru is divided into agriculture, mining, fishing and manufacturing MICRO FINANCING has become popular in Peru and other parts of Latin America. It involves supplying loans and savings to low income people who can not use a bank.

Lima is the largest city in Peru with 7 million people. 33 % of the population is Mestizo 50 % are indigenous (native) 10 % are white 7 % Asian and African The Spanish brought with them a class system which was in place until 1900. In some areas of the country native people and mestizo’s still belong to the lower class where as the upper class is mostly white.
