3. OBJECTIVE  To incorporate the Citadel’s Leader Development Program (LDP) as it relates to 1 st - class cadets… Command.  Understand the concept of bystander intervention through sexual assault/harassment case studies, discussion, and a five-step process.

STEP IT UP… COMMAND  Seniors… create a command climate for standards and regulation compliance.  What is a command climate?  It is a living thing; it is either growing stronger or it is growing weaker. Leaders focus on building their subordinates' ability to operate effectively and ethically under increasing distance, duration, and distraction.  Is it easy to set a good command climate? How do you do that?  What does the command climate look like right now in your battalion/ company.

5. FIVE STEPS TOWARD TAKING ACTION (ADAPTED FROM DARLEY AND LATANE, 1968) 1.Notice the event (Be aware/Situation Awareness) 2.Does the situation demand your action... (You Set the Tone… are rules being followed) 3.Decide if you have a responsibility to act… (Assume personal responsibility) 4.Choose what form of assistance to use… (Know how to help. Seek input)  Create a diversion  Separate the parties  Use a group approach to diffuse the situation  Talk privately to potential victim 5. How do you as cadets hold each other accountable?  Do you think someone could have stepped in before these actions got out of hand?

To wear the Citadel ring?  Is Jameis Winston a good leader?  Is it possible for a leader to hold someone else accountable for their actions if the leader does not hold themselves personally accountable for their own actions? FORMER EXOTIC DANCER SUES JERRY JONES, ALLEGES SEXUAL ASSAULT FOX SPORTS SEPT 9, 2014  Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is accused of sexual assault by a former exotic dancer in a lawsuit filed in a Dallas court, Sports Illustrated reported.  The accuser said in the suit that the Cowboys owner “intentionally and knowingly sexually assaulted” her by forcibly rubbing and grabbing her buttocks and breasts multiple times.  Jones is also accused of forcing her to grab his penis, kissing her and penetrating her with his fingers.

" It was brutish. I was upset. I’m a father of a 12-year-old girl and I’ve got five sisters.“ The way that women are treated is pretty personal as far as I’m concerned." His response wasn’t to lash out at the reviewer, instead, the restaurant is offered a potato skins special, selling them for $7, asking customers to “Come out and help Atomic show our skins!
