For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. - Leonardo DaVinci Une fois que vous avez goûté vol vous marcherez le monde avec vos yeux tournés vers le ciel, vous avez été là et que vous souhaitez retourner. - Leonardo DaVinci

Armee de l’Air Translates to Army of the Air. Air force branch of the French Armed Forces. Formed in 1909 and made into an independent branch of the armed forces in 1933. Currently operates 635 aircraft, making it the 4 th largest air force in NATO, and 2 nd largest in Europe, behind the British Royal Air force. The most notable aircraft in the French Air force's arsenal is the Dassault Mirage 2000 Armee de l’air operates 158 Mirages and is part owner of Dassault

Dassault Mirage III Developed in the mid 1950s Capable of travelling 2x the speed of sound (Mach 2.2, 1500 MPH) The design of Concorde was modeled after the Mirage III’s delta wing shape.

Dassault Mirage 2000 Developed in the late 1970s to replace the Mirage III Primary jet of the French Air Force Also used in the Indian, United Arab Emirates, and Chinese Air Forces. Mirage 2000s are capable of flying at Mach 2.2 or 1500 mph. Mirage 2000 served as an uprage tor the III with upgraded avionics, a more agile build, and most importantly, MORE WEAPONS

The airplane is just a bunch of sticks, wires, and cloth, a tool for learning about the sky and about what kind of person I am, when I fly. An airplane stands for freedom, for joy, for the power to understand, and to demonstrate that understanding. Those things aren’t destructible. -Richard Bach, Nothing by Chance, 1963

Airbus A380 The Airbus A380 is currently the largest commercial aircraft. It sports a massive full double-decker fuselage with a carrying capacity of up to 853 people ! Development of this super jumbo jet started in the summer of 1988, but the first commercial A380 rolled out on October of 2007 (for Singapore Airlines). Created to conform to a “Hub and spoke” theory of logistics, as opposed to the Boeing “Point to point” theory. One A380 costs $389.9M Due to production logistics, only 4 can be made per month, 85 have been made so far.

Roger Roger, what's your vector Victor? I know but this guy has no flying experience at all. He’s a menace to himself and everything else in the air!... Yes birds too.

Cruise Speed: Whatever the speed limit is. Cruise Altitude: 0 ft. 4-door not-so-super sonic sedan

Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde The Concorde was the first supersonic commercial aircraft ever made. It was created through a partnership between Aérospatiale, a French aviation company, and British Aircraft Corp (BAC). Concorde means, agreement, harmony or union. It was named this to reflect the treaty (Anglo-French Treaty of 1962) that the French and British governments signed that ultimately allowed for the plane’s construction. The first flight of the Concorde was in March 21 st 1969 The Concorde has a maximum cruise speed of Mach 2.02 (or 1334 MPH) Concorde cannot fly any faster as there is a risk of the nose melting. The cruise altitude is nearly 2x as high as a standard commercial jet (topping off at 60,000 ft.)

Concorde @ 60,000 ft. http://www.travelscholar.com/concorde/page03.html Although it is -52 degrees Celsius on the outside, the windows are warm to the touch because of the extreme heat that is generated from friction at 1,350 MPH At 60,000 ft. the Concorde is clear of all turbulence, weather, and other air traffic, making for a smooth and uninterrupted flight, the only people that fly higher are astronauts. Traditional subsonic aircraft only have a cruise altitude of 30,000-35,000. At 60,000 ft. you can see the curvature of the earth. Concorde had a reputation of being so fast that you could literally “arrive before you leave” because of time zones.

Concorde Fun Facts: The nose is equipped to be able to drop down slightly. This reduces drag and more importantly, allows pilots to see the runway on taxi, takeoff, and landing. There is a small wheel on the tail end, since Concorde takes such a high angle of attack when taking off, there is a risk that the tail might actually hit the ground. Concorde unfortunately was retired mainly due to the fact that it was extremely expensive to fly. It burned 46.85 lbs. of Jet-A per minute, almost as much as a Boeing 747-400. The real kicker is that Concorde only has a passenger capacity of 100 people, Boeing has upwards of 400.

To invent an airplane is nothing. To build one is something. To fly is everything. -Otto Lilienthal D’inventer un avion est rien. De construire un quelque chose. Pour voler, c’est tout. -Otto Lilienthal
