9. n Kenneth M. Weinberg Vice President of Carrier Logistics Inc., has an extensive background in computer systems and industrial engineering for the transportation industry. He has overseen project development for leading motor carriers, air and land freight forwarders, maritime shipping, and inter-modal carriers throughout North America and abroad for over 25 years. He was instrumental in the design and development of CLI's software products, including FACTS2000, the total transportation system. Mr. Weinberg has been quoted in the major trade and business press for his expertise on transportation logistics and is often called upon to speak at various influential seminars and industry events. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters of Business Administration from Iona College in upstate N.Y. After graduating from college, Mr. Weinberg proudly served his country as a lieutenant in the US Army in various logistics capacities. Back to presentation

36. Behind the Scenes: At the heart of the system is the use of state of the art mapping technology with grid based routing. Grid based routing is a systematic planning of pickup and delivery routing based on your service area's historical and geographic information. A grid is an engineered grouping of addresses based on longitude and latitude. The entire territory covered by your fleet is broken up into a unique grid network, which will be the building blocks for route engineering. Grids are grouped together according to historical volumes of freight delivered and picked up in each grid. Each of these groups represents a "Route". A "Route" is a geographic territory comprised of grids in a definitively ordered sequence. 46. Brokerage System Brokerage Overview The broker system is generally used by Non-Asset based companies to control shipments which will be picked-up and delivered by trucking companies. It is essentially a dispatch control, but rather than be concerned with productivity, the goal is to manage the outside carriers to ensure that the work is done. Non-Asset based companies use the system to schedule pickups and deliveries of shipments as though the trucking facilities are part of the company. Brokerage firms can use the system to track freight movement as well as billing information.
