You will meet monthly with your TAA group and advisor. Lessons on character will be presented and discussed. This year we will focus on service. The first lesson of this school year will be on……………………………………………………………………

Service project with the Hope for Haiti Foundation. School supply drive starts on Oct. 22 nd and ends on Oct 31 st.

Haiti endured a 7.0 earthquake in January of 2010 This earthquake devastated an already struggling country Est. 200,000 deaths 1.5 million left homeless 3 million left in need of emergency aid Thousands of children orphaned 4,000 schools severely damaged or destroyed

80 % of Haiti’s population lives below the poverty line.

40% of Haiti’s population is unable to read or write. Half of all elementary aged children are not in school. 30% of the elementary students that are in school will not make it to 3 rd grade. 60% of students will abandon school by 6 th grade. 33% of girls over the age of 6 never go to school. Only 25% of teachers in Haiti have adequate training. Many have only a 9 th grade education themselves.

Less than 20% of Haiti’s schools have electricity. 39% have clean water. 15% have a library. Children that do not live in a large city have to walk up to two hours (one way) to get to the nearest school.

Post-it notes **** especially needed We will learn more about the Hope For Haiti Foundation at the next TAA lesson in October.
