Haley Shackelford

Content Area: Science Grade Level: 5th grade Summary: Students will be given information about both types of cells, their components, and processes. After they review the information, they will be given five questions to answer and then will see what they have learned. Learning Objective: Given interactive games and facts about both plant and animal cells, the student will be able to answer three multiple choice questions about the cell with 100% accuracy. State Standard: GLE 0507.1.1 Distinguish between the basic structures and functions of plant and animal cells.

Facts About Cells! All plants and animals are made up of cells Cells are the building blocks of life Humans have about 100 trillion cells! Cells digest food, heal cuts, and carry oxygen to your lungs When many cells of the same kind are together in a group, they make up tissue

Parts of the Cell Watch this video to learn about the different parts of the cell! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfopLilIOeA Cell Membrane: Holds the cell together and lets substances pass in and out of the cell Chloroplasts: Found in plant cells. They contain chlorophyll, which is a chemical that allows plants to store energy

Parts of the Cell Nucleus: Controls the cells activities and chromosomes Cell Wall: Found in plant cells. They give a stiff shape to the cell Click here to label a plant cell! ( ONLY label the parts of the cell that we have learned about) http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/health/anatomy/cell/plant_cell_game.htm

Question One Which of the following is found in plant cells? – Nucleus Nucleus – Cell Wall Cell Wall – Mitochondria Mitochondria

Correct! Great job!

Question Two This important organelle holds the cell’s genetic material inside the nucleus… – Mitochondria Mitochondria – Chromosomes Chromosomes – Chloroplasts Chloroplasts

Correct! Great job!

Question Three Which type of cell makes up flowers, trees, and grass? – Plant cell Plant cell – Animal cell Animal cell

Correct Correct! Great job!

Question Question Four What is made when cells come together? – Tissues Tissues – Organs Organs – Muscles Muscles

Correct! Great job!

Incorrect! Try again! Think back to the vocabulary, videos, and games!

Conclusion After viewing the facts about cells and their functions, and have also clicked on the links, you have learned the differences between animal and plant cells and have also learned what makes up a cell! Great job!
