3.  The antibiotic Tetracycline was invented by Lloyd Conover in 1955.  Tetracycline is an antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body, it was also used to treat urinary tract infections, acne, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia and others. Tetracycline  Some common side effects of Tetracycline are diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, and vomiting.  Headaches and dizziness may also occur.

4.  Another main discovery was the birth control pill in 1954 by Carl Djerassi, which was at first considered illegal until in 1961 it was legalized by the Food and Drug Administration.  Birth control works by producing hormones that can sometimes affect the lining of the uterus, making it harder for a woman to get pregnant.

5.  The first Kidney Transplant was performed by Joseph Murray in 1954.  The patient of the transplant was Richard Herrick, who received a kidney from his identical twin, Ronald.

6.  The Polio Vaccine was discovered in 1953 by Jonas Salk.  On April 12, 1955 it consisted of an injected dose of dead poliovirus.  Polio is an acute viral disease, it is spread through crowding, unclean situations, and improper sanitation of waste fluids.  The outbreak harmed millions, and was even fatal.

8.  The ultrasound was invented in 1957 by Ian Donald.  Approximately one year after, it was used on a pregnant woman.  An ultrasound imaging works by sending high frequency sound waves, that produce pictures of the inside body.ultrasound imaging
