9 100,000 US Marines were sent to capture the Island, February 19 th,1945

10 First Mission, Arrive to the Top of Mount Suribachi

11 US Marines fought during 4 Days climbing over the Mount Suribachi. There were only 10,000 Japanese, but the Japanese resist fiercy to hold the Mount.

12 On February 23 rd,1945,US Marines conquered the Mt Suribachi after 4 days climbing against Japanese.

13 6 US Marines raised the American Flag at the Top of Mt Suribachi in Iwo Jima Island on February 23rd of 1945.

16 The Film was sent by Airplane to the Island of Guam, then it was transmited by radio to New York.

17 Iwo Jima GUAM From Guam Island was radiotransmited to Associated Press Headquarters in NY.USA.

19 Newspapers all over USA decided to print huge copies of Joe Rosenthal Picture next day.

20 Felix DeWeldon made a Miniature Statue of the Iwo Jima picture.

21 Franklin Roosevelt ordered to please back to the USA the Six men who have raised the flag.

22 It was too late. Mike Strank, Harlon Block and Franklin Sousley were dead

23 Returned to USA only.

24 Back in United States, the 3 survivors traveled all over the country with the small statue to collect money for the War.

28 In 1954, Dwight Eisenhower led ceremonies,the 3 survivors were present.
