FACTS OF EYE DONATION It’s a combination of selfless charity and the miracle of medical technology It’s the process of restoration of sight through corneal transplant

Cornea is the clear, transparent tissue covering the black portion of the eye It becomes cloudy from disease, injury, infection or malnutrition etc because of which vision is lost Corneal blindness can be treated by replacing the damaged cornea by a healthy donated human cornea The only source of availability of cornea is through eye donation.

Eye donation in India today meets less than 5% of the demand for corneal transplants There are about 1.3 million (13 Lakh) corneal blind persons in the country with an additional 25000 adding each year. Only 22000 cornea are collected every year from eye donations whereas the requirement is 200 times more

DONATING EYES Eyes should be donated within 4 to 6 hours of death Any body can be a donor irrespective of age, sex, blood group and religion Procedure will take about 15 to 20 minutes Eyes can be donated even if the deceased has not formally pledged his/her eyesEye Bank edited video_13-07-2010.mpgEye Bank edited video_13-07-2010.mpg

The eye bank will reach the donors home immediately. This service is free Eyes are never bought or sold All religions endorse eye donation

Appeal Pledge your eyes.
